Foreign Minister Dr. Arju Rana Deuba has stated that the Sagarmatha Sambaad has been successful in raising awareness about the problems caused by climate change—from the high Himalayas to island nations.
Speaking at the closing session of the three-day Sagarmatha Sambaad held in Kathmandu, Minister Deuba emphasized that this edition of the dialogue brought together leaders, policymakers, experts, scholars, youth, civil society representatives, international organizations, and communities from mountainous and island countries in a spirit of genuine dialogue.
He noted the importance of collective efforts to implement the outcomes and achieve the goals set by the summit, describing the Sambaad as not just an event but a confluence of ideas and a celebration of shared responsibility.
Minister Deuba said:
“Sagarmatha stands firm as a symbol of our determination. May the outcomes of this dialogue remind us of our collective resolve.”
He assured that the issues and suggestions discussed during the Sambaad would be raised in various international forums. These include the upcoming High-Level International Conference on Glacier Protection in Tajikistan later this month, the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, and the UN Climate Change Conference COP-30 scheduled to take place this year in Brazil.
Finally, Foreign Minister Deuba announced that the second edition of Sagarmatha Sambaad is scheduled for 2027, signaling Nepal’s continued leadership in global mountain and climate dialogue.
