School Education Bill Report Submitted to Parliamentary Committee After Extensive Discussion

Kathmandu, May 18, 2025 (Jestha 4, 2081) — The report on the School Education Bill has been formally submitted to the Education, Health, and Information Technology Committee of the Federal Parliament. The report was presented on Sunday, Jestha 4, following comprehensive internal discussions by a subcommittee assigned to review the draft legislation.

The subcommittee had been given additional time for deliberation, receiving an extension of 10 days on Baisakh 22 after an initial 35-day timeline granted on Chaitra 8, totaling 45 days of discussions.

Purpose and Urgency

The intense scrutiny of the bill is driven by the need to meet a mutual agreement reached between the government and the Teachers’ Federation, which stipulates that the School Education Act must be enacted by Asar 15 (late June 2025). To fulfill this commitment, the committee prioritized an in-depth discussion and swift finalization of the draft.

What’s Next?

With the submission of the report, the parliamentary committee will now move forward with the formal legislative process, aiming to introduce and pass the final Act before the agreed-upon deadline. The bill is expected to bring significant reforms and updates to Nepal’s school education system, addressing long-standing demands and aligning with federal structures.
