Dhaka, Bangladesh – Nepal secured a commanding 8-0 victory over Bhutan in the ongoing SAFF U-20 Women’s Championship, continuing their strong performance in the tournament held in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
In the dominant win, Purnima Rai and Meena Deuwa each scored a hat-trick, while Kusum Khatriwada and Samikshya Magar added one goal apiece, sealing Nepal’s emphatic triumph.
With this result, Nepal has now played five matches, winning four and earning 12 points in the tournament. Earlier, Nepal defeated Sri Lanka twice with identical 7-0 scorelines and also beat Bhutan 6-1 in their first encounter. Nepal’s only loss came against host nation Bangladesh, where they were narrowly defeated 3-2.
Bhutan, on the other hand, has managed only one win out of five matches. Their lone victory came against Sri Lanka, with a 5-0 scoreline. Bhutan suffered losses against Bangladesh (4-1 and 3-0) and Nepal (6-1 and now 8-0).
The tournament features four teams — Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka — and follows a double round-robin format. Each team plays the others twice, and the team finishing at the top of the table will be declared the champion.
Nepal’s final match of the tournament is scheduled against Bangladesh on July 21, a crucial fixture that may decide the championship title.
