With heavy rainfall predicted across various parts of the country, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel and remain in safe locations.
According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, there is a high likelihood of heavy rain in different regions starting from this afternoon. Based on this alert, Prime Minister Oli issued a message through social media, calling on citizens to stay safe and follow official instructions.
“The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has predicted heavy rainfall in several parts of the country today. Let’s follow the advisories issued by the security agencies to avoid weather-related disasters. I request everyone to avoid long-distance travel unless absolutely necessary and to stay in safe places,” Oli wrote.
The Prime Minister has also directed security forces to remain prepared for any emergency situation. Relevant agencies at the federal, provincial, and local levels have been urged to stay active to help minimize potential damage from floods, landslides, and inundation.
Earlier, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority had warned of extreme rainfall from the night of Shrawan 3 (July 18) to Monday, Shrawan 5 (July 20), and advised the public to remain alert.
Disaster experts have cautioned that continuous rain increases the risk of landslides and floods. People living in vulnerable areas have been advised to stay alert and follow instructions issued by local authorities.
Recent heavy rains have already disrupted daily life in several regions, with landslides blocking roads in some places. The government has stated that it is making all necessary preparations to reduce disaster risks. Army, police, armed police forces, and local volunteers have been placed on standby.
