Chinese CIDCA Delegation Meets Prime Minister Oli, Discusses Bilateral Cooperation and Development Projects

A delegation led by Chen Xiaodong, Chairman of China’s International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Tuesday at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar. During the meeting, both sides held discussions on the long-standing and friendly relations between Nepal and China, the implementation of past agreements made during high-level visits, and four bilateral agreements signed on Monday at the Ministry of Finance. Prime Minister Oli reiterated Nepal’s firm commitment to the One-China policy and appreciated China’s continued support.

Prime Minister Oli expressed gratitude to the Chinese side for giving priority to the reconstruction of the Rasuwagadhi border point, which was recently damaged by flash floods. He also informed that the Nepali side is making necessary efforts in this regard. Highlighting the importance of regional connectivity, he emphasized the need to operationalize other border crossings such as Kimathanka and Lagagad to help transform Nepal from a landlocked to a land-linked country. Furthermore, he stressed that projects under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) framework should move forward without obstacles.

Present during the meeting were the Prime Minister’s Chief Advisor Bishnu Prasad Rimal, Economic Development Advisor Dr. Yuba Raj Khatiwada, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Chen Song, and senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Earlier on Monday, the CIDCA delegation had held discussions with Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel regarding current and future development projects supported by China. On that occasion, memorandums of understanding (MoUs) were signed for four projects as part of the ongoing development partnership between the two countries.
