One Killed, Two Injured in Midnight Accident in Chitwan

One person died and two others were injured in a midnight road accident on Thursday at Shanti Chowk, Ratnanagar Municipality–3, along the East-West Highway.

A vegetable-laden Bolero (Bagmati Province 2–02–001 Cha 0510) hit a motorcycle (Ba. Pra. 06–001 Pa 3509), killing the motorcyclist, 35-year-old Mukunda Kandel of Kalika Municipality–2. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Rabindra Khanal of the Chitwan District Police Office, the Bolero was attempting to overtake a bus (Ba. Pra. 03–001 Kha 3365) en route from Janakpur to Kathmandu when it collided head-on with the oncoming motorcycle. After hitting the motorcycle, the Bolero also crashed into the bus.

Kandel, who was critically injured, died at 1:19 AM during treatment at Bharatpur Hospital.

Although the side glass of the bus was broken in the collision, no passengers were injured. Police reported that the Bolero driver, 30-year-old Humes Lamga of Lekhnath Municipality–27, Kaski, and the vehicle owner, 34-year-old Dhruba Raj Pokhrel of Machhapuchhre Rural Municipality–3, Kaski, sustained minor injuries.
