Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has inaugurated a newly constructed maternity home in Ward No. 6 of Matihani Municipality, Mahottari district. Before the inauguration, he also opened a newly built bridge over the Bighi River in Ward No. 8 of the same municipality.

The maternity home, built at a cost of around NPR 20 million, was constructed with support from the Special Grant Program of the National Planning Commission and in cooperation with Matihani Municipality.

Located south of Jarlahawa Gachi in Ward 6, the five-bed facility is expected to benefit pregnant women in the region, enhancing access to maternal health services.

Mayor of Matihani Municipality Hari Prasad Mandal stated that due to budget constraints, they couldn’t build a 50-bed hospital. However, he expressed confidence that the construction of the five-bed maternity home would help save the lives of both mothers and newborns.

The newly built facility includes a surgery room, NICU, delivery room, waiting area, OPD, pharmacy, nursing room, toilets, and an information/help desk—all designed to provide comprehensive maternal care. Locals of Matihani welcomed the project, saying it would support safer deliveries and better care for newborns.

The inauguration event was attended by several dignitaries, including Mahottari Constituency-3 MP and LSP Chair Mahantha Thakur, Minister for Labour and Employment Sharatsingh Bhandari, Madhesh Province Chief Savitri Bhandari, Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh, Infrastructure Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav, and Education and Culture Minister Rani Sharma Tiwari, among others.
