Nepalgunj — A 22-year-old woman, identified as Nirmala Thapa from Dailekh, was found murdered in her rented room at Belaspur, Nepalgunj. Thapa, who worked as a waitress at Sunakhari Restaurant in BP Chowk, was strangled with a scarf, according to the District Police Office, Banke.
Police have taken 35-year-old Prakash Sunar of Bardiya into custody in connection with the crime. Sunar was employed as a captain at Swastik Cottage in Nepalgunj.
According to police reports, after committing the murder on Wednesday night, Sunar called Thapa’s sister and told her, “I killed your sister.” Later, around 2 a.m. on Thursday night, Sunar voluntarily appeared at the District Police Office, Banke, and confessed to the killing, leading authorities to the crime scene.
Police recovered Thapa’s body from her room after his confession. The post-mortem was conducted Friday morning after the arrival of her family in Nepalgunj.
Investigations revealed that Sunar is married and has a wife, one son, and one daughter living in Bardiya. Family sources said that Sunar and Thapa had been living together in Belaspur, Nepalgunj-12, for the past three years.
The police have stated that further investigation into the case is underway.
