Prithvi Man Gurung, senior leader of the Nepali Congress and former Chief of Gandaki Province, has passed away. He breathed his last at his residence today at 8 AM.
Gurung, who also served as the former president of the Nepali Congress Chitwan chapter, was appointed as the Chief of Gandaki Province on July 27, 2021 (Shrawan 12, 2078 BS). A resident of Bharatpur Metropolitan City-26, he also worked as the chairman of the Land Commission in Nawalparasi, according to Tek Prasad Gurung, a central committee member of the Nepali Congress. During the split of the party, he had served as the district president of the Democratic Congress.
Born in 1949 (2006 BS) in Lwang Ghalel of Machhapuchhre Rural Municipality, Kaski, Gurung later migrated to Chitwan. The 76-year-old leader had been battling cancer for a long time. He actively participated in the 1990 People’s Movement (Jana Andolan) as a member of the mobilization committee and served in various positions within the Nepali Congress throughout his political career.
Gurung will be cremated on Sunday as his younger son is currently abroad. Among his two sons, the elder one has already passed away. He is survived by his wife and younger son.
