An outbreak of Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) among livestock has been reported in various local levels of Sunsari district, including the district headquarters, Inaruwa.
According to Manoj Mehta, head of the Veterinary Hospital and Livestock Service Expert Center in Sunsari, cases of infection have been detected in Inaruwa, Dharan, Itahari, Duhabi, Barahkshetra, Ramdhuni, Koshi, Gadhi, Dewanganj, Barju, Bhokraha Narsingh, and Harinagar rural municipalities.
So far, a total of 1,516 livestock have been infected in the district. The highest number of cases has been reported in Duhabi Municipality, with 276 infected animals, while Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City has the lowest count at 15 cases.
The outbreak has also resulted in the death of 53 animals, with Barahkshetra Municipality recording the highest number of fatalities at 13 deaths.
To contain the spread, 64,441 livestock have been vaccinated against the disease, Mehta informed.
