Santosh Kunwar has been elected as the president of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Australia, leading his entire panel to a decisive victory in the election held on Saturday, July 26. Kunwar defeated his rivals Sanjiv Dhakal Gorkhali and Bhairav Dhakal by a large margin.
Kunwar won against Sanjiv Dhakal, who contested from Northern Territory with 2,126 votes, and Bhairav Dhakal from Perth (Western Australia), who received 3,727 votes. Out of 16,121 eligible voters in Australia, Kunwar secured 6,839 votes from the 13,701 ballots cast.
Having served in various roles in NRNA for nearly a decade, including as the former general secretary, Kunwar entered the election with a promise to make the organization more investment-friendly, transparent, and participatory. He described the victory as a collective win for all members and pledged to uphold their trust with fairness.
Moving forward, Kunwar aims to secure grants from both federal and state governments in Australia and has ambitious plans to mobilize funding amounting to 2 million Australian dollars to support the organization’s initiatives.
