Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Chief Executive Director Hitendra Dev Shakya has assured that the ongoing electricity supply problem in Chitwan will be resolved by Tuesday. Speaking to journalists in Bharatpur, Shakya clarified that there is no load-shedding in Chitwan and the issue arose while upgrading the electricity distribution system.
He stated that load-shedding will not return in Nepal, but occasional technical problems should be understood. According to Shakya, the current problem in Chitwan is due to an increasing load and an old, deteriorating distribution system. “The system here should have been upgraded earlier. There has certainly been a delay in work, and the problem peaked as the temperature increased,” said Shakya. “The issue will be solved by Tuesday evening, and this situation will not occur again.”
He explained that the heavy load was caused by farmers running multiple water pumps simultaneously due to lack of rainfall.
After inspecting the old Bharatpur distribution center, Shakya also visited the Chanauli distribution center, which recently faced criticism for issuing a one-day power outage notice. According to Shakya’s secretariat member, Engineer Narayan Aryal, the NEA chief is scheduled to visit Hardi in eastern Chitwan today to review the installation, testing, and transmission of a 24 MVA transformer.
