Two pilgrims who went missing while bathing in the sacred Gosaikunda Lake in Ward No. 5 of Gosaikunda Rural Municipality, Rasuwa, have been found dead. According to District Police Chief Hem Bahadur Shahi, the bodies of approximately 28-year-old Sujan Dhakal of Biratnagar, Morang, and Manoj Neupane of Belbari, Morang, were recovered from the lake.
The incident occurred on Saturday, July 27 (Shrawan 11), while the two were bathing as part of a religious pilgrimage. Both men reportedly drowned in the deeper section of the lake and had been missing since.
A rescue team deployed from the Shreenath Battalion of the Nepali Army, in coordination with local resources and personnel, retrieved the bodies from the lake. The bodies will be handed over to Nepal Police for further procedures, according to the Army.
Authorities believe that the drowning occurred due to the individuals entering a deep part of the lake without sufficient caution. Local officials have urged pilgrims to exercise safety and remain alert while bathing in such high-altitude sacred sites.
