Landslide-Blocked Dumre-Besisahar-Chame Road Reopens in Manang

Manang, July 29 – The Manang section of the Dumre–Besisahar–Chame road, which had been blocked by a landslide on Monday evening, has been reopened to traffic as of Tuesday noon.

According to Inspector Rajkishor Sah Teli, spokesperson for the District Police Office, the road was cleared in coordination with the Dumre–Besisahar–Chame Road Project. The landslide had occurred at Hawadanda in Ward No. 4 of Marsyangdi Rural Municipality, completely obstructing the road.

Ward Chairperson Bal Bahadur Gurung informed that continuous rain and the risk of further landslides during the night delayed the clearing efforts. Excavators were deployed early Tuesday morning to remove the debris. He also stated that electric poles and wires were damaged in the landslide, and repair work is currently underway.

The areas of Chyamche, Jagat, and Hawadanda in Marsyangdi Rural Municipality–4 frequently witness large boulders and landslides, leading to repeated road blockages. Local resident Chandra Gurung said that these recurring incidents have caused significant hardship for both residents and travelers, especially affecting people in Manang and the surrounding rural municipalities.

Due to the ongoing risk of landslides and floods during the monsoon season, authorities have advised the public to check road conditions before traveling. Night-time vehicle movement on this road has also been officially restricted for safety reasons.
