Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has officially launched the ‘FIFA Football for Schools’ program in Nepal. The initiative, supported by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), was formally inaugurated on Thursday during a special ceremony held at Dasharath Stadium.
During the event, Prime Minister Oli distributed free footballs to around one thousand schools across the country. He also announced that the government is prioritizing the development of the sports sector and revealed plans to construct a new and large-scale football stadium in Suryabinayak, Bhaktapur.
According to the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), the program will play a significant role in promoting football at the school level. Earlier this week, Antonio Buonanno Sanchez, manager of the program, and Alberto Giacomini, technical advisor, arrived in Nepal to help facilitate the initiative.
Under this program, FIFA, in collaboration with ANFA, will distribute a total of 32,640 footballs to 1,072 schools across all 75 districts of Nepal. The goal is to integrate sports into the school curriculum, promote life skills among students, and contribute to the development of grassroots football.
The launch event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel, Youth and Sports Minister Tejulal Chaudhary, Vice President of the National Sports Council Dhruba Acharya, NSC Member Secretary Tankalal Ghising, ANFA President Pankaj Bikram Nembang, and other officials.
