A woman drowned on Wednesday in Bharat Lake, located in Bagmati Municipality–12, a site increasingly popular among both domestic and international tourists.
The identity and address of the deceased have not yet been confirmed. According to Police Inspector Chandrakant Adhikari from the Area Police Office, Hariban, the woman appears to be of Madhesi origin and is estimated to be around 20–21 years old.
Eyewitnesses reported that the woman shouted for help (“bachau”) before falling into the lake. People nearby — including local business owners and visitors — rushed to the scene but were unable to rescue her in time.
Her body was later found floating in the lake. It has been sent to the Provincial Hospital in Malangawa for postmortem examination.
The police are currently working to establish the woman’s identity. She was wearing a mangalsutra, a top, and jeans at the time of the incident, according to police reports.
