Heavy Rainfall Hits Parts of Madhesh; More Rain Expected

Several districts in Nepal’s Madhesh Province experienced heavy rainfall on Saturday, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology. After a prolonged dry spell, the government had declared the province a crisis-hit area earlier this monsoon.

As per Saturday morning’s measurement, Tulsi center in Dhanusha recorded 63.8 mm of rainfall, while Hardinath in the same district saw 51 mm.

Likewise, Gaur in Rautahat received 44.6 mm, and Amlekhgunj in Bara recorded 46.4 mm of rainfall. In meteorological terms, rainfall between 50 to 100 mm in 24 hours is considered “heavy,” while 10 to 50 mm is categorized as “moderate.”

Other districts in Madhesh, including Sarlahi (37.6 mm) and Gausala in Mahottari (32.4 mm), experienced light to moderate rainfall. Rainfall in Siraha and Saptari remained low.

Meteorologists have forecast moderate to heavy rain in Madhesh on Sunday as well. The monsoon trough is currently shifting northward, increasing the likelihood of further rainfall.

Similarly, moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely in many hilly areas of Gandaki and Lumbini provinces and in some parts of the Tarai region. One or two locations in Koshi, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces could experience heavy rainfall on Saturday.

Tonight, skies across the country are expected to remain generally cloudy. Moderate rain with thunder is likely in many areas of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, with chances of heavy rain at one or two places in Koshi Province.
