Landslides Block Prithvi Highway in Multiple Locations Due to Overnight Rain

Due to overnight rainfall, landslides in several sections of the Prithvi Highway have blocked the road. A landslide near a place called Jahare Khet in Gajuri Rural Municipality has completely halted traffic in both directions.

According to Suraj Shrestha, Chief of the District Traffic Police Office, Dhading, efforts are underway to clear the debris and resume vehicle movement. To prevent heavy traffic congestion in the surrounding areas, police have stopped vehicles at various points along the route.

As a result of the road closure, vehicles leaving the federal capital this morning, along with night buses arriving towards Kathmandu, have been stranded on the road. Police stated that the ongoing rain and the slow flow of debris from the landslide have made clearance operations difficult.

It is estimated that removing the Jahare Khet landslide alone will take about three hours. Meanwhile, due to continuous rainfall, traffic on some other sections of the Prithvi Highway is operating only on a single lane.
