The tradition of applying Dashain Tika continued on Friday, the second day of Tika. Following the main day of Vijaya Dashami, when people received red Tika as a symbol of good fortune and Jamara as a symbol of prosperity from elders as the blessings of Goddess Navadurga, people continued visiting relatives today as well.
After the sacred offerings, worshipped for nine days during Dashain at homes and shrines, were used for Tika on Thursday, markets and public places saw increased activity today as people visited their relatives to receive blessings.
The Tika ritual is performed by taking Jamara from the sacred vessel (ghada) established on Ghatasthapana and offering it according to Vedic rituals.
Vijaya Dashami, celebrated on Ashwin Shukla Dashami, is observed with great joy by receiving Tika and Jamara from elders as the blessing of Goddess Durga. For those who could not receive Tika on Thursday, the tradition allows them to receive it until Kojagrat Purnima, as long as the rituals of offering are not yet completed.
