Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has proposed holding the party’s 15th General Convention from Poush 16 to 19. He made the proposal during the ongoing Central Working Committee meeting.
In the meeting, Thapa urged the party to fix the convention date within those days. Earlier, on Monday, the establishment faction’s gathering in New Baneshwor had decided to hold the convention from Baisakh 25 to 28, a decision that will be presented to the Central Committee for approval.
However, the dissident faction has maintained that either a regular or special general convention should be held before the House of Representatives election. They have already submitted signatures from 54 percent of general convention representatives—enough to call a special convention—to Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka.
