Government Declares 45 Gen-Z Protesters as Martyrs; Cabinet Decisions of Kartik 17 Made Public


The government has made public the key decisions made by the Cabinet meeting held on Kartik 17.

Government spokesperson and Minister for Information, Communication, and Technology Jagdish Kharel announced the decisions on Tuesday. The meeting addressed issues ranging from foreign employment tribunal appointments to martyr declarations, compensation distribution, and temporary staff approvals.

The Cabinet appointed Deputy Attorney General Ghanshyam Ojha, from the Nepal Justice Service (Government Attorney Group), as a member of the Foreign Employment Tribunal.

Similarly, Secretary of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Supplies Dr. Ram Prasad Ghimire has been approved to participate in the Third Review of Nepal’s Trade Policy in Geneva, Switzerland, from Mangsir 1 to 3.

The meeting also approved the “Fund Operation Regulation, 2082” for the Commission on Investigation of Enforced Disappeared Persons, Truth, and Reconciliation.

Secretary of the Ministry of Water Supply, Pramila Devi Shakya Bajracharya, has been granted approval to attend the High-Level Summit on Water Security and Resilience in Bangkok, Thailand, from Mangsir 22 to 26.

In a major decision, the Cabinet declared 45 individuals who died during the Gen-Z protests on Mangsir 23 and 24 as national martyrs.

Following the Supreme Court’s order, the government also approved compensation of Rs. 603,600 to Padma Maya Gurung.

The Cabinet further decided to deposit Rs. 53 million into the Disaster Management Fund to assist disaster-affected local bodies in Ilam district.

Additionally, the government waived penalties and late fees for a South Korean national who had entered Nepal illegally and has now been permitted to leave the country.

As per the Ministry of Defense’s recommendation, 10 Lieutenant Colonels of the Nepal Army have been promoted to the rank of Colonel.

The Cabinet also granted pre-approval to conduct an organization and management survey of the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology and its subordinate bodies.

For the upcoming fiscal year 2082/83, 10 temporary officer-level positions have been approved for the Provincial and Local Governance Support Program, Terai–Madhesh Prosperity Program, and Local Infrastructure Support Program under the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration.

The Ministry of Finance and its subordinate agencies’ organizational structure and staffing positions have also been approved.

Likewise, the Advertisement Board under the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology has been granted approval for 8 temporary positions for the fiscal year 2082/83.
