Two Nepali Tourists Rescued from Snow in Mustang-Dolpa Border Area

Two Nepali tourists who were stranded in heavy snow at Chharka Bherol, on the border of Mustang and Dolpa districts, were rescued by helicopter this morning.

The rescue operation was coordinated by the District Administration Office, Mustang, with the support of the Nepal Army’s Indrabaks Battalion and Air Dynasty Helicopter Services.

The rescued individuals have been identified as Manish G.C. from Parbat and Santosh Kunwar from Myagdi. According to Chief District Officer (CDO) Bishnu Prasad Bhusal, they were trapped due to heavy snowfall during their visit to the Upper Dolpa region.

The duo had begun their journey on Kartik 9 (October 25), staying the first night at Santa village in Baragung Muktichhetra-5, Mustang, before heading toward Chharka in Upper Dolpa. However, due to adverse weather and snow accumulation, they were stranded in Chharka for six days.

On Kartik 16 (November 2), after the snowfall subsided, they attempted to return to Mustang along with local contractor Bikas Rokaya. Rokaya, being a local, managed to reach Santa village, but the two tourists lost their way near Chharka Bherol, at an altitude of around 5,000 meters above sea level, and remained stranded for four days.

Rokaya later informed the local administration via satellite phone about the stranded tourists. Following this, the Nepal Army team reached the site and airlifted them safely back by helicopter.

Tourist Manish G.C. shared that they were trapped for four days due to continuous snowfall and thanked the local administration and the Nepal Army for their timely rescue efforts.
