Nepali Congress Spokesperson Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat has urged the party leadership to put aside internal power struggles and unite, saying that the party, democracy, and the nation are currently facing an unprecedented crisis.
Addressing the ongoing meeting of the Nepali Congress Central Committee, Dr. Mahat stated that both the country and his party are in crisis. “Today, the nation is in crisis, our party is in crisis, democracy is in crisis, and we are personally in crisis as well,” he said.
He mentioned that most discussions in the General Committee meeting have focused on whether or not to form an electoral alliance in the upcoming 2084 election. He said the incidents of the 24th (of the Nepali month of Bhadra) cannot be considered an “achievement.”
“We agree with the youth movement of Bhadra 23 that demanded good governance,” he said, “but the destructive incidents of Bhadra 24 cannot be seen as achievements. The attacks on Singha Durbar, the Supreme Court, Parliament, and the President’s Office were not spontaneous actions of the youth — they were only used as instruments.”
Recalling his active participation in the movements of 2036, 2042, 2046, and 2062/63, he added, “I have dedicated my life to struggle, but it pains me to see the party now turning self-destructive.”
