Construction of Colonel Ujir Singh Thapa International Stadium Begins in Butwal

Butwal – Work has officially begun to upgrade the Jabai Sports Ground in Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City Ward No. 13 into an international-level stadium named after Colonel Ujir Singh Thapa.

The stadium honors Colonel Thapa, who famously led Nepalese forces to victory over the British in the historic Jitgadhi battle. The Lumbini Province government has allocated a total budget of NPR 530 million for the project in two phases. In the first phase, a contract worth NPR 85.2 million has already been signed.

The stadium will feature seating for around 20,000 spectators, an international-standard football field, a multi-purpose sports arena, volleyball courts, an athletic track, a swimming pool, an aquatic center, parking areas, and children’s parks.

The project, which was delayed for years due to forest clearance issues, has resumed following the initiative of Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel. Local representatives and sports enthusiasts have expressed happiness and called for quality construction.

The detailed design is complete, and authorities have assured that the work will now move forward rapidly under the Provincial Infrastructure Development Authority.
