Monsoon Conditions Persist Across Nepal; Department Urges Caution Amid Rainfall Risks

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has reported that monsoon winds continue to affect the entire country, with the monsoon trough currently positioned near its average location.

According to the department, partly to generally cloudy skies are expected in the hilly and Terai regions of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces on Thursday afternoon. There is a likelihood of moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning in parts of Sudurpashchim and in isolated areas of the Terai region of Lumbini Province.

For tonight, generally cloudy conditions are expected in the hilly areas of Koshi, Madhesh, and Sudurpashchim provinces, while partly cloudy skies will prevail in the Terai. Isolated places in the hilly regions of Madhesh and Sudurpashchim are also likely to receive moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning.

The department has cautioned that the expected rainfall could lead to landslides, flash floods, and overflows in rivers and streams. There is a risk of flooding in urban and low-lying Terai areas, with rising water levels in both small and large rivers.

People are advised to remain alert, especially in vulnerable regions. The department has also urged all relevant authorities and the general public to prepare for possible disruptions in daily life, agriculture, health, tourism, construction, roads, and air transport due to heavy rainfall.
