Elderly Couple Missing After Landslide Buries House in Modi Rural Municipality, Parbat

A devastating landslide buried a house in Langdi, Deurali of Modi Rural Municipality Ward No. 3, Parbat district, early Sunday morning, leaving an elderly couple missing.

The single-storey house belonging to 76-year-old Chhabilal Bishwakarma was completely buried by the landslide, which struck around 4 AM. Chhabilal and his 76-year-old wife Bishnumati BK were buried under the debris and have been reported missing.

According to local officials, the couple’s daughter-in-law, 32-year-old Pabitra BK, narrowly escaped the disaster as she ran out of the house immediately after the landslide began.

Ward Chairperson Devendra Paudel confirmed that the landslide covered the entire house. Rescue efforts are currently being carried out by local residents, as police have not yet reached the site due to road blockages caused by the ongoing heavy rainfall.

Chakra Bahadur Pun, a local resident, stated that continuous rain is hampering the search and rescue operation. The road to the affected area is also obstructed, delaying the arrival of security personnel.

Inspector Ram Prasad Sapkota of the District Police Office, Parbat, said that a police team is en route to the site and will provide further details once they reach the location.
