Harka Sampang Applies to Register New Political Party ‘Shram Sanskriti Party’

Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City Mayor Harka Sampang has submitted an application to register a new political party named Shram Sanskriti Party (Labor Culture Party) with the Election Commission.

According to the Commission, Sampang filed the application on Ashoj 7 (September 23), proposing himself as the party’s chairman. Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, spokesperson for the Election Commission, stated that Sampang submitted the request with the proposed election symbol of a clump of soil (माटोको ढिस्को). However, he has been asked to provide additional documents required for the registration process.

Harka Sampang gained national attention after winning the mayoral post of Dharan as an independent candidate, largely due to his activism surrounding the local drinking water crisis. Since becoming mayor, he has focused on public mobilization and voluntary labor (shramdaan) to improve water management in Dharan.

According to the Election Commission, a total of three applications for new political parties have been received so far in the current fiscal year, including the Shram Sanskriti Party. Earlier, applications were submitted to register Ujyalo Nepal Party and Nepal Nagarik Party.

The Commission has confirmed that all three applications are currently under review.
