All office bearers of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) National Coordination Council (NCC) USA have been elected unopposed.
According to the election schedule announced for the new leadership of the organization, each position received only one nomination. As a result, the election commission declared all candidates elected unopposed.
The election was originally scheduled for July 27 and 28. Although multiple nominations were filed for some posts, most positions had only one candidate. Following consensus efforts by senior members of the association, all candidates were unanimously elected, the commission confirmed on Wednesday.
According to the election commission, the following individuals were elected:
- President: Bikash Upreti
- Senior Vice President: Prem Tamang
- Vice Presidents: Deepak Pandey, Diwakar Sapkota, Kumar Tamang, and Thalbir Oli
- Women Vice President: Shanti Paudyal
- Youth Vice President: Bishnu Prasad Paudel
Other elected office bearers include:
- General Secretary: Ramchandra Pant
- Secretary: Prachanda Shrestha
- Women Secretary: Sangita Lama Lamichhane
- Treasurer: Kamal Dhungana
- Joint Treasurer: Manoj Kumar Thagunna
- Women Coordinator: Sabitra Sibakoti
- Youth Coordinator: Ashish Sangraula
Due to ongoing disputes regarding the timeline set by the International Coordination Council (ICC) and directives from Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a special election committee was formed by the ICC to ensure elections were conducted within July.
However, an alternative faction led by Basu Phulara has announced a separate election date for August 17 and 18, arguing that, as a legally registered social organization in the U.S., NCC USA is not strictly bound by ICC or foreign ministry directives.
As a result, elections for the NRNA NCC USA are now set to occur on separate dates by two rival factions, clearly reflecting the impact of ICC-related disputes and internal divisions within the organization.
