Nepal Ranks 92nd in the World’s Most Powerful Passports List

Nepal has ranked 92nd in the Henley Passport Index 2025, placing it ninth from the bottom among the world’s most powerful passports. Out of 101 countries assessed, Nepal shares the 92nd position with South Sudan and Nigeria. Compared to last year (2024), when Nepal ranked 87th, it has dropped five spots.

Countries that rank below Nepal include Sudan, Libya, North Korea, Bangladesh, Yemen, Pakistan, Somalia, Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan — with Afghanistan at the bottom of the list.

The Henley Passport Index ranks passports based on the number of destinations their holders can access without a prior visa — either visa-free or with visa-on-arrival.

India, Nepal’s southern neighbor, has improved its position, moving up from 85th to 77th place.

China has shown a significant leap in rankings — rising from 94th in 2015 to 60th in 2025. Meanwhile, the United Kingdom has dropped to 6th place, and the United States now ranks 10th. Most European countries have secured the 3rd and 4th positions.

Citizens of countries like France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, and Spain can travel visa-free to 189 destinations, placing them in the third tier. Austria, Belgium, Sweden, and Portugal hold the fourth position.

The most powerful passport in 2025 belongs to Singapore, whose citizens can travel to 193 countries without a visa. Singapore has surpassed both Japan and South Korea, who are now tied at the second spot.
