Teachers dissatisfied with the School Education Bill staged a sit-in protest at the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) office on Wednesday. The Nepal Teachers’ Federation organized the protest at the party’s Dhumbarahi-based office, accusing the government of failing to fully implement past agreements reached with them. Federation Chairperson Laxmikishor Subedi said that while the bill contains several positive provisions, it has ignored key concerns of teachers and staff, as well as many issues agreed upon earlier. The election for the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee will be held on Friday, September 5 (Bhadra 20). Lawmakers were informed about the election during Wednesday’s meeting of the House of Representatives. The post became vacant after Anita Devkota Nyaupane resigned as Chairperson of the Hearing Committee on August 26 (Bhadra 10) following her election as Chair of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee. Earlier, Ramhari Khatiwada had resigned as Chairperson of the same committee after an investigation panel held him morally responsible for maneuvering to remove the cooling-off period provision from the Federal Civil Service Bill.

Kathmandu: The House of Representatives today endorsed by majority the proposal to consider the “Nepal Citizenship (Second Amendment) Bill, 2081” along with the amendments made by the National Assembly. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is returning home on Wednesday after participating in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit held in Tianjin, China.
