Thirteen individuals from Jajarkot district, Nepal, have gone missing after a flash flood struck Harsil area of Uttarkashi in India’s Uttarakhand state on Tuesday afternoon. According to Harichandra Basnet, Chairperson of Kushe Rural Municipality, all 13 missing individuals are residents of Ward No. 2 of the municipality. They had gone to India for labor work and have not been in contact since the flood hit. The Bagmati Province government has declared a public holiday across the province on the occasion of the Gaijatra festival, which falls on Shrawan 25 (August 9). According to Rabita Karki, Information Officer at the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law, the decision was made by the provincial cabinet and officially published in the Provincial Gazette. Gaijatra is widely celebrated in Bagmati Province, especially in areas with a significant Newar population, including the Kathmandu Valley.

A dry landslide early this morning has completely blocked the road at Bimire Bhanjyang, located in Ward No. 10 of MadhyNepal Municipality, under the Mid-Hill Highway. According to police, continuous landslides have made it impossible to clear the debris immediately. With the road blockage, vehicles traveling between Pokhara and Besisahar have started using an alternative route via Kaure, Bangre, and the Chautara of Thansing Danda. According to Police Inspector Rajan Timilsina of the Dumkibas Area Police Office, vehicles are unable to move uphill in Daunne due to the slippery road surface. “As soon as it rains lightly, the road becomes slippery and vehicles can't move.
