The Supreme Court is set to begin hearings today on 16 writ petitions filed against the dissolution of the House of Representatives. According to Supreme Court spokesperson Arjun Prasad Koirala, the preliminary hearing will be held on the writs demanding mandamus and certiorari orders regarding the annulment of the Prime Minister’s appointment, the dissolution of Parliament, and the reinstatement of the House. Koirala informed that all 16 writ petitions will be heard together in the Constitutional Bench.

The Nakkhu Prison administration has issued a public appeal urging inmates and detainees who escaped from the prison premises last Tuesday to surrender without delay. In a statement released Friday, the administration warned that continued evasion would lead to harsher enforcement of legal penalties. Milan Gurung, also known as Chakre Milan and notorious as a local gang leader, has been ordered to be released on a bail of NPR 30,000. The bench of Judge Khimananda Bhusal at the Kathmandu District Court issued the bail order for Milan and 18 others. Alongside Milan, Rajesh Khadka has also been granted bail of NPR 30,000. For the remaining 17 individuals, bail has been set between NPR 10,000 and 20,000. Following the order, they are in the process of paying bail and being released.

The Special Court has found Bharat Kumar Thapa, the mayor of Bagmati Municipality in Sarlahi, guilty in a case related to corruption and illegal property accumulation. A bench comprising Chairperson Judge Tek Narayan Kunwar and members Judges Muraribabu Shrestha and Bidur Koirala delivered the verdict, convicting Thapa along with Bimal Kumar Pokharel and Sagar Paudel. However, the court acquitted Lilakumari Moktan, Bishwaraj Pokharel, and Methur Chaudhary. The court also found Thapa guilty in a separate case involving the accumulation of illegal property.

Bimal Poudel has been recommended for the post of Chief Registrar at the Supreme Court of Nepal. The recommendation was made during a meeting of the Judicial Service Commission held on Monday. The position became vacant following the retirement of Chief Registrar Devendra Raj Dhakal, who stepped down on Monday upon reaching the age limit of 58. The Special Court has ordered the release of former Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) Chairman Digambar Jha on bail in connection with the Teramax procurement irregularities case. On Sunday, a bench of Judges Narayan Singh Rai and Murari Babu Shrestha issued an order to release Jha on a bail amount of NPR 300,000. Earlier, on Chaitra 15 (March 28), the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had filed a case against Jha along with 19 other individuals, accusing them of involvement in irregularities related to the purchase of Teramax equipment.
