A tragic incident occurred in Achham as 7-year-old Kriti Saud, daughter of Khadak Saud from Kuskot-4, Mellekh Rural Municipality, lost her life after being swept away by a stream. According to Achham Police, Kriti was returning home from treatment at her maternal uncle’s residence in Sanfebagar-13, Babla, when she fell into the Ekdi Khola while crossing a narrow path. A joint search operation by the police and armed forces recovered her body about three kilometers downstream from the site.

In Panini Rural Municipality-7, Eklebhir of Arghakhanchi district, a Bolero jeep with registration number Lu 1 Ja 4915 met with an accident on Thursday morning. The jeep, traveling from Chhatradeb Rural Municipality towards Butwal, veered off the road, leaving two of the three passengers injured, according to Chharka Malla, Chief of Arghakhanchi District Police Office. The condition of the two injured individuals is reported to be serious, while the third passenger is unharmed. The injured have been taken to the district hospital for treatment. Further investigation into the accident is ongoing.

A Nepali youth working in Portugal has passed away. According to family sources, Arjun Apagai (32), a resident of Tamakoshi Rural Municipality-6, Dolakha, died on August 10 while in Portugal for employment. His body is currently kept at Beja Hospital in Portugal. The family has appealed for financial assistance to manage the body’s repatriation and funeral arrangements. Shivji Apagai, brother of the deceased, has requested support from the Nepali community in Portugal as well as various social organizations.

The ward chairperson of Rajgadh Rural Municipality-5 in Saptari, Devendra Sah, also known as Dukhilal, passed away on Tuesday night while undergoing treatment. According to Rural Municipality Chair Om Prakash Mandal, the 70-year-old leader died at Bharatpur Cancer Hospital in Chitwan, where he had been receiving treatment. Sah had been battling cancer for a long time. He was elected ward chair in the 2022 (2079 BS) local elections from the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal, securing 497 votes.

U.S. Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, held a meeting with the mother and sister of Bipin Joshi, the Nepali student who remains in Hamas captivity in Gaza. During the meeting, Ambassador Huckabee expressed solidarity with the Joshi family and stressed the need to intensify pressure for the immediate release of all hostages. He reiterated that the United States has been consistently pushing for the unconditional freedom of every individual held by Hamas. Bipin Joshi, who had gone to Israel for agricultural studies, is still being held hostage in Gaza.

A landslide triggered by heavy rainfall this morning has blocked the Khalanga–Gokuleshwar section of the Mahakali Highway in Darchula. The landslide occurred at Ranebas in Malikarjun Rural Municipality-3, halting all traffic along the route, according to Inspector Chhatra Bahadur Rawat of the District Police Office, Darchula. Chief District Officer Anil Paudel said equipment has been brought in from Khalanga to clear the debris and reopen the road.

Nepali Congress lawmaker Durlabh Thapa has said that the proposal against Deputy Speaker Indira Rana was brought forward due to political necessity, citing her conduct as inconsistent with the position. Speaking to journalists at Singha Durbar, Thapa argued that issues must be addressed at the right time, and removing the Deputy Speaker has now become necessary. “Any action is taken when the need arises. Right now, the need has arisen, so this step has been taken,” Thapa stated.

The CPN (Maoist Centre) has alleged that the government is acting with ill intent by attempting to remove Deputy Speaker Indira Rana. A meeting of party officials at the central office concluded that the government is moving towards authoritarianism. “The government is heading toward authoritarian and dictatorial practices.
